time for a new nest

30 July 2009

i know it's been a while and as per usual i will promise i will get better at posting on a regular basis, but i have a good reason this time. my husband, my dog and myself just moved from chicago to brooklyn! it is lovely to be east coastin' again. but moving is kinda like the worst thing i have done (physically & mentally) in a long while. it also made me realize how out of shape i am and why i am going to start researching swimming pools in the very near future. so, look out for new posts on a consistent basis. and for all my chicago friends, i will post some new home shots soon! xo

patch it up

13 July 2009

patch nyc is one of those magical, mystery companies made up of 2 dapper gentlemen concerned with print, pattern and perfection. don carney is the mastermind behind the imagery. all of the imagery is sourced from his original sumi ink drawings (that's right, not a block print). the pillows and totebags are impeccably made and all of their trinkets and jewelry harken back to an older simpler time. i can't really handle how fantastic i think the book candlestick holders are!

plans for new rooms in faraway lands

i would love to equip my house with all things john derian. especially now that he's making furniture that looks like it was just freshly plucked from a bygone era.

brothers that bloom together

10 July 2009

there has been a lot of crazy things happening in the world of the great lakes, but i did take some time out the other day to see a movie that i had been really excited to see. the brothers bloom. the brothers bloom is a con man caper noir movie about two brothers who start life in a rather scrappy way and move on up one con at a time. its cast is quite charming- mark ruffalo, adrien brody, rachel weisz and rinko kikuchi- and the set ups and humor are spot on. it was written & directed by rian johnson who also wrote & directed a movie called brick. he's quite good at setting up a modern day noir film. lots of old timey sayings and stylings. i will say that the ending was a bit of a let down after such an elaborate tale was woven, but between the quirkiness and the styling of the cast it was totally enjoyable. one of rachel weisz's first outfits is a vera (the fabric designer not the wang) dress and adrien brody can really wear a suit! i find my thoughts drifting back towards it quite often & trying to scheme up my own cons.
